Last Ditch Defense
Whenever a Character takes damage, the Player may immediately spend Hero Points to reduce the amount of damage sustained. In our genre, two Hero Points spent will take away one RAP of damage. The maximum amount of Hero Points that can be spent on Last Ditch Defense is equal to the lesser of:
==> the basic value of the Resistance Attribute being targeted by the damage (i.e., half the player’s Resistance Attribute in damage can be immediately bought off), or
==> the amount of damage just dealt by the current attack.
The decision of whether or not to use Last Ditch Defense must be made at the instant the damage is taken, but it does not require the Character to be conscious. Again, this is essentially a “save for half damage” option for a Player Character who has the HP to spare!
